DRW supports Rita’s Bravehearts Drive-In Event

From Durham Region Women at Pickering, Ontario on 04/10/2021

Not even Mother Nature and Covid could stop Rita’s Bravehearts Adventure Road Trip plans to create another amazing event for the Braveheart children on August 13th.  The annual road  trip to Santa’s Village in Bracebridge was temporarily changed to a funtastic Drive In Event, at the Hearth Place parking lot in Oshawa.

The Durham Region Women joined Rita’s Bravehearts Adventure Road Trip to setup the Flintstone’s themed drive in event that featured the movie Luca.  Once the families arrived, the kids received a large grab bag of candy filled with a variety of treats that lit up their faces and started their evening’s excitement.  To really get things going, Mother Nature delivered a down pour of rain that filled the parking lot with puddles big enough for our own Joan D to get the party started with puddle jumping!  One by one the kids followed along with splashing, smiles and laughter.  Once the rain moved on, the movie began and the hot dogs were cooking. Surprise character guests were Fred and Wilma Flintstone (our own Sharon M) who joined us to entertain and enjoy the evening ahead.

Prizes were given out to all the kids who joined the dance event – and who didn’t?!  Then it was pink elephant popcorn, caramel popcorn and special Braveheart cookies that were shared with all the children.

Not leaving Santa out, another surprise guest appeared! Terrible Tom, the Pirate who drives Santa’s summer sleigh at Santa’s Village arrived from Muskoka to deliver a special message from Santa and gave out exclusive elf hats to celebrate the 65th anniversary of Santa’s Village.

It was obvious that every family and every participant including the volunteers were having a wonderful time and will look forward to the next Rita’s Bravehearts Adventure Road Trip in the near future!
