Calgary Clubs helping the community during Covid-19

From Calgary Bow River at Community Kitchen on 31/03/2020

As Canada practices physical distancing, closing down many non-essential services and businesses, there’s a still a need for charity and support in our home and native land. Community Kitchen supplies delicious fresh produce boxes at very low cost to families across the Calgary region.

To protect volunteers from the ongoing Covid-19 risk, there were some modifications – the assembly line was twice as long (now featuring two corners!), gloves and sanitizer were available and the maximum number of volunteers was capped at 10 (rather than 30+ during a busy session). The rollers rattled and whirled as we shuttled the boxes two or more meters to the next station, adding fresh produce like onions, cabbages, squash, apples, oranges and cucumbers.

Thank to volunteers from Calgary Bow River, Elevate and guests who packed 386 boxes, with just over 6 tons of produce to benefit of at least 1100 people throughout the region.
