2017 Children’s Charity Classic

From Greater Moncton Women at Royal oaks Golf Course on 27/07/2017

On July 27, 2017 at the Royal Oaks Golf Course, the Greater Moncton Women’s Progress hosted the 24th Annual Children’s Charity Golf Classic.  For the past 24 years the monies raised have been going to Moncton Headstart and this year’s tournament was sponsored by Wyverstone Capital.

Moncton Headstart is a charitable community agency dedicated to providing quality early family intervention and support services to help children and their families realize their full potential. “Headstart Families” are families who struggle to meet their most basic needs and require services, resource awareness and programs to help them thrive. Headstart offers families the opportunities and support for growth and change. Through a multitude of programs and services aimed at developing healthy relationships, improving self-esteem, and developing skills, these children are able to start school on an equal footing, something that as parents and teachers we all value.

32 teams teed off on a cool July morning but the spirt of the event was foremost in the minds of the golfers. The event had two hole in one contests, raffle draws, door prizes, a silent auction and the highlight: the live auction.  The top Prize of a WestJet trip for two brought in a generous bid of $2100.  In total the event raised $39,000 for Moncton Headstart.

There was a lot of positive feedback from the golfers who had indicated that this was the most well organized golf tournament they had ever attended. Of course, this wouldn’t have been possible without the countless hours of work put in by the Golf Committee and the ladies of Greater Moncton Women’s Progress Club.

Next year marks the 25th anniversary and we hope it to be a bigger and better event.
