Convention 2007:
A Rookie's Perspective

My
sides hurt from laughing, and my cheeks hurt from smiling. This is the
aftermath of Convention. As a “rookie”, I wasn’t sure what I was in for,
when I signed up for the Niagara Falls Convention. I had heard whispers
of clown noses and late nights, and more wardrobe changes than I’d
normally make in a month; but no one could have prepared me for the
wonderful and worthwhile experience this past September. So much happens
in those five days, that it is hard to clearly put into words the
whirlwind of activities experienced, and the friendships formed.

Convention truly is a time to broaden your circle of
“best friends for life”. Friendships I’d made within my own Club were
strengthened and deepened. And all the new people I met--who in the
course of an afternoon seminar, or a bus ride, or a shared table for
dinner—seemed as if I’d known them for years. To talk with them about
their hometown, their Club’s involvement in their communities, and their
passion for Progress made me realize that we are improving lives across
a whole country.
Going to Convention is akin to getting one of those
panoramic cameras. Suddenly you can see so much more. Your vision of
your life and your world expands ten-fold. Convention allowed me to
really understand all the great things we do. We are important to our
towns and cities, and it is the power of all these individuals working
together, that is making the difference.
So, the question is, would I go again?
Just let me know how many shoes to pack, and I’ll
be there!
