CanWest Global Raise-a-Reader Day

Submitted by
CPC Regina Wascana

Regina Wascana and Regina Centre members were some of the many volunteers who took part in the annual CanWest Raise-a-Reader Day on Wednesday, October 3, 2007.

(Shown at right, from left to right:  Back Row - Greg Hornung, Don Findlay, Rick Smith, Catherine Weisgarber, Janey Davies, Susan Patryluk, Debra Kruk; Front Row - Debbie Shimming, Karen Graham, Sheila Miller.)

Volunteers took to the streets to "hawk" special Raise-a-Reader editions of the Leader-Post in the chilly early morning - raising almost $10,000 in 2 hours! 100% of all funds raised go directly to organizations which provide family literacy programs and literacy support in Regina and southern Saskatchewan with many children and families benefiting from these literacy programs. Nationally, thousands of volunteers in 18 cities across ten provinces raised $2,237,236 for literacy programs in Canada during this annual event.

Some of the many club members from Regina Centre were able to sneak in a quick picture with us as we were all rushing out the door to start selling!
