Calgary North:  Heads & Tails Lobsterfest

Submitted by Gary Nakamura
CPC Calgary North

Calgary North hosted its 2nd Annual Heads & Tails Lobsterfest on June 17th.  Among the many guests were members of the National Board who were in Calgary for the National Board meetings.

Calgary North member and event chair Phil Psaltis and his wife Shirley worked tirelessly prior to and during the event to ensure that everyone was enjoying themselves and that things ran smoothly.  Lobster dinners and BBQ’ed steaks were the order of the day with Calgary North members providing the cooking duties for the steaks.  A silent and live auction accompanied the dinner and a dance followed at the end of the auctions.

Resident auctioneer and cook, Bill Brown provided further entertainment with a spirited round of Heads & Tails.  Entry fees were collected from those who wanted to participate and contestants were asked to stand and place their hands on either their head or their “tail”.  Elimination came for those who chose wrong and the last person standing received half of the total collection.  Gary McCowan of Calgary Bow River was the eventual winner and promptly donated his winnings to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Calgary.  Kudos to Gary for his generosity.

Other than the weather not quite cooperating and sprinkling the event with showers, the night was enjoyable for all attendees and another success for Calgary North.
