"Canstruction" to Feed Nova Scotia

Submitted by Ken Robinson

Every year “Feed Nova Scotia” is the beneficiary of an event called “Canstruction”.

This event involves different companies and groups signing up in a friendly competition to build different objects only using cans.  These objects could be anything from a football stadium to a 10 foot lobster!  Made out of cans only and displayed in the two premier malls in the city, Mic Mac Mall and Halifax Shopping Center.

Now as you can imagine there are thousands and thousands of cans needed to set these masterpiece’s up.  On October 18th 2005, about 20 of the Canadian Progress Club-Halifax members volunteered to unload all the cans to the two locations.  The members at the Mic Mac location certainly had more cans to unload from their tractor trailer but the members at the Halifax location were older so it all balanced out.

When the whole event is over, all the cans go to “Feed Nova Scotia” to help people less fortunate.  This was our second year being involved in this and it is truly a worthy cause.
