Spring Has Sprung in Pictou County!

Submitted by Michele Russell

On March 24th a few members from our club attended Halifax Cornwallis’s “Girl’s Night Out!”  What a great event!  We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.  Congratulations to the ladies for putting on a great event enjoyed by all.

Party with Progress – A little bit of fun was in order on Friday, April 07th.  Our club hosted a successful fundraiser here in New Glasgow at “The Dock”, a local Irish Pub.  It was a perfect setting to socialize with friends and neighbors.  The dance floor was busy from the beginning of the evening to end.  It was a great night to promote Progress and new membership.  Thanks to the organizing committee for doing such a great job!

Our Fourth Annual Chair Affair and Evening of Comedy will be held this year on Friday, May 05, 2006.  We are pleased to have 11 exquisite Adirondack Chairs that have been hand painted by local artists and will be auctioned off throughout the evening. Comedian  Bill Carr will be joining us again this year to provide an evening of entertainment.  Beneficiaries of funds raised will be in support of Pictou County Special Olympics, Big Brothers Big Sisters In-School Mentoring Program and other local charities.  For more information and / or to purchase tickets please contact Karen Logan or myself, Michele Russell, co-chairs of this years event.

We are looking forward to hosting the 2nd annual Eastern Region Convention at Pictou Lodge, Pictou, NS, June 09 & 10th.  During this time together we will work hard, play hard and build a strong Eastern Region.

We welcome all Eastern Region members of Progress to register early.  Early registration expires April 21st.  Those that have not received their registration form via e-mail please contact Jana Cleary (902) 752-6159.  For Hotel Reservations contact Pictou Lodge Direct at 1-888-662-7484 (or see www.maritimeinns.com).   A group of rooms are being held for a limited time, so it is advised to book early for best selection.  Accommodation details are available with registration packages that were e-mailed out to Eastern Region Members.

Dress for Success – In conjunction with efforts of The RBC, we, The Pictou County Women’s Progress Club joined in support of Dress for Success’s SOS (send one suit) drive.  The Dress for Success program helps in assisting low-income women transition back into the workforce.  We are thrilled with the positive response and business clothes collected / donated. Thank you to all who supported the project.  There is a continued need for donations.  Please contact: Dress for Success, Box 159, 1096 Queen St., Halifax, NS, B3H 2R9 for further information on how to offer support.
