The role of the Director of Communications is one of the most technical positions on the National Board with the production of the newsletter. Sharon Ward has done a remarkable job as the former Director of Communications. Sharon not only performed the position with a great deal of professionalism, but raised the bar to lofty heights for the newsletter, “The Progression”. Her editorial skills along with her insightful columns about Progress and its members are indeed, very large shoes to fill. Our thanks to Sharon for her outstanding role on the National Board over the past three years. Which brings us to me, Gary Nakamura, the newest member of the National Board as the Director of Communications. I am a long standing member of Calgary North and have been with the Progress since 1988. As a member of Calgary North, I have been involved in most of the positions in the club and am known by most members in the West as the past chair of the Western Regional Awards. You may have noticed that the editor’s desk has also moved from the east to the west to Calgary ... cowboy country. However, after “Brokeback Mountain” maybe this desk didn’t move far enough west! I understand that Calgary Downtown will be bringing a new event to their Dogie Doo Rodeo, “the Brokeback Mountain Saddle and Bed Roll decorating contest - a guys only event”. But no matter where the desk is, your articles provide a great deal of insight into what the clubs and the members are up to across the country. The pride and dedication of the members in providing community services or funds for countless good causes across the country is evident in each of the articles sent in. In other words, the true essence of Progress. I look forward to serving all of the members in the capacity as Director of Communications and encourage all of you to keep those cards and letters coming! Thanks to Sharon for all of the tips and knowledge that she passed on to me with regard to the position. Yours for Progress,
