Beefin' up the Soup-Kitchen Ranks

“Ten…Hut! On the ladles men, cut those veggies, stir that soup!”

If Scotty and his team of master chefs weren’t enough to head up “Makin’ Soup Night” there is another master apprentice in our midst. Regular Army Sgt. Major Keith Jones wannabee crew chef has enlisted to the ranks of the Greater Moncton Progress Club. In his first month of membership Keith has volunteered for every event he possibly could. Establishing a new location for the many Progress volunteers to cook up their hearty concoctions, he has stepped up to help out Chef Scott. He is not attending Scott’s well known Academy of Cooking, but he is getting private lessons once a month at the Veterans club on St George Street in Moncton as he and the rest of the club members cook up 2200 bowls of soup.

Keith has made an amazing first impression on the other members of the club. When asked “Who wants to ride the soup bus?”, his hand was up first with a resounding, “Put me on the bus every night.” When the “Scotch tasting” fund raiser came up he was the first to say “Hey, I can get a few guys to come to that.”, and once again he volunteered to be on the committee. Christmas in the Pedway, Antler Breakfast, Float committee… count him in on all events.

We can all learn from the actions of this one member. He has only just begun to get that proud Progressian feeling, and already he has made an impression that has inspired some of the older members to pick up the pace and get back in action. Thank you Keith for your drive and enthusiasm.

“At ease men.”
