The 14th Champagne Classic:  CPC Regina Assiniboine

Every last detail came into place on June 16th at the Tor Hill Golf Course—even the sun was shining!  The CPC-Regina Assiniboine Club hosted the Champagne Classic Women’s Golf Event, led by Chairperson Tammy Slugoski.  It was a tremendously successful event.  Striving to raise $7500 to purchase equipment for the Pediatric Ward at the Regina General Hospital, the club began preparing on the format for this Event in the fall of 2004.

This group of 12 women know how to put on a first class event!  Will Chabun, of the Regina Leader Post, refers to the group as “The Little Club with Big Hearts”.  The sponsorship gathered through local businesses was outstanding.  There were four Hole in One prizes for cars and cash, a West Jet Voucher worth $2100 and five fabulous raffle gift baskets worth $500 each.  Organization is the key at sold out Golf Events and that was evident as club members were congratulated by golfers for the well run event.  Juanita Soutar, our National President, joined us for the day from Toronto.  We were so pleased to have her attend and then celebrate with us after.  Thanks Juanita!

Gabrielle Miller (Lacey on CTV’s Corner Gas) was a fabulous emcee and a highlight of the evening.  She really enjoyed the atmosphere and was very happy to give back to this community she has called home for the past two film seasons.

Nothing pulls at our heartstrings more than a child who is in hospital fighting an illness or recovering from a traumatic accident.  Fortunately, with advances in medicine and medical technology and fundraising events like the Champagne Classic, children are receiving more effective care and their parents are learning how to look after their children the best way possible.  During the Program, Rena McIntosh spoke about her experience with the Pediatric ward when her daughter Amy was a victim in a tragic car accident.  It was an exceptionally moving and touching story that confirmed for the audience of their support for the Hospitals of Regina Foundation.

Each golfer was encouraged to raise pledges for the Pediatric ward.  The support was amazing!  At the end of the program Tammy Slugoski revealed just how successful this fundraiser was. “It gives me great pleasure to announce that we have overwhelming exceeded our target in raising funds for the three essential pieces of equipment needed on the Pediatric ward.  The 14th Champagne Classic has raised at least $ 18,460.”

Hats off to the CPC-Regina Assiniboine and all volunteers for a job very well done!
