Pictou Count reports in

Submitted by Debbie Vansickle

Members from the Pictou County Progress Club attended the Eastern Regional Convention in Halifax held in May.  We had six members attend the convention.  All members enjoyed the weekend and took back some great ideas to the membership.

We are currently preparing a bid for the 2006 Eastern Regional Convention.

Our last meeting before summer break was held in June and we distributed monies to our charities, Big Brothers Big Sisters In School Mentoring, Special Olympics and The Shepherds Lunchroom.  Members also met with the organizations to see how they could assist with our fundraising activities.

Even though the summer is here and we are no longer meeting for two months, our group is volunteering at the New Glasgow Music Jubilee on the riverfront in New Glasgow.  This event is a non-profit event that celebrates the great talent in our community. (George Canyon is our home town hero!)

August brings us together again to assist at the Dragon Boat Festival.  This event raises funds for Women Alike breast cancer survivors, Pictou County Prostate Group, NS Special Olympics and the NS Amateur Sports Fund.

So, we have a busy summer ahead of us, but we will be good to go in September!
