Regina Centre Accepts Wheelchair Basketball Challenge

Members of CPC Regina Centre accepted an invitation for a return wheelchair basketball challenge match with the Paratroopers, members of the Regina Wheelchair Basketball Association.  The return engagement took place at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre gymnasium on February 23, 2005.  Seven members of the Regina Centre club took part in the match.

The results of the game were never in doubt.  The Paratroopers took a commanding lead right at the outset of the game and never looked back.  According to Mike Marsh, president of the Regina Centre club, “We got our butts kicked but it was a great time”.

The evening started with pizza and refreshments.  The strategy was to try and slow down the Paratroopers with lots of food and drinks before the game.  However, the strategy backfired and Paratroopers outplayed and outscored the Regina Centre team by a larger margin than last year.  Mike Brady, president of the Wheelchair group, said the kids had a good time and really enjoyed the pizza.

In 2004 the Regina Centre club presented the Regina Wheelchair Basketball Association with a new wheelchair suitable for sports use.  The presentation was followed by a challenge match against our best athletes.  The Paratroopers won that event handily.  At the request of the CPC members no scores were recorded.
