The
National Board met in the Region on the last weekend in January, which
led into Central Region events taking place.
(At left: York Region Women, hosts of the
Central Region President's Ball.)
The
Region’s two Zone Governors, John Holman and Roy Urbach
organized two seminars to take place during the Saturday. Both
present and incoming club Presidents were encouraged to attend along
with any other regional members. The morning seminar of preparing
Regional and National awards was presented by Roy Urbach of
Richmond Hill and Karen Mrkonjic with preparation assistance by Mary
Kutarna, both of Toronto Trillium.
The
afternoon seminar was on Business Planning for Progress and was
presented by Alwyn McAllen of Toronto Downtown. Both
seminars were successful in participation and the information generated
by the speakers left members walking away with a renewed sense for
Progress.
Saturday night the York Region Women played host to
the President’s Ball. About 70 guests attended and an auction
held for the Charitable Trust raised over $600. The York Region
Women celebrated 25 years in Progress. Congratulations everyone.
On
a sad note, Central Region National Vice-President Gary Kisil
tendered his resignation due to personal reasons. The Region would
like to thank Gary for his contributions and wishes him well. In
the interim, Brampton member and Ontario West Metro Zone Governor John
Holman has been appointed by the Regional Board as Interim National
Vice-President.
Brampton
The Brampton club hosted the Region’s joint Zone
meeting on February 22nd. Almost half of the Region’s membership
was in attendance. Representation was present from all
clubs. Special guest speaker Lorna Dickson with Telecare Distress
Centres spoke on the need for their service, advising Brampton is the
only center with multilingual capabilities. It was noted that this
center is part of a province wide participation group. The
Brampton club was pleased to have inducted new member Anna Holloway.
Welcome to Progress Anna! In addition, Richard Holloway was
presented with his Mercury Award. Good work!
