CPC Halifax Serves Food to Those Less Fortunate

Submitted by Ken Robinson

In early January 2005, CPC Halifax decided on getting involved directly with a soup kitchen somewhere in the Halifax region.  We felt this would be a great way to give back to our community with a real hands-on approach.  Within a few days of making our decision, we contacted a local organization called F.O.O.D (Feeding Others Of Dartmouth).  This soup kitchen is located in downtown Dartmouth, across the harbour from Halifax, and is open seven days a week for lunch and three days a week for supper to feed those in need.

After our discussions with F.O.O.D we came to find out they were in need of help on Wednesday afternoons from 3 to 5:30 pm to set up, serve food and clean up.  Since the time of those discussions, our club has had two members there every Wednesday (since January 16th) to help serve food.  Our club will continue in this role through until June with a very enthusiastic participation from club members.  Because of this enthusiasm we have taken it to the next level and now bring food to the first Progress Club meeting of each month, and give it to the two members who are going to the soup kitchen that day.  The food is then distributed to those who need it at the soup kitchen.  It has been a very rewarding experience for all of those club members who have participated.  Thanks to all the members and keep up the good work.
