Eves Cut a Rug with Special Olympians

On Saturday, January 22, 2005, the Calgary Eves volunteered at a Calgary Special Olympics Bowling Banquet.  We helped serve dinner to almost 500 athletes and guests (record crowd) in about 35 minutes (record time).

(Shown at left, from left to right:  new member Sandra St. Jules, Ailene Lockhart, Martha Bader, Eleanor Down, Annemarie Schreiner and Alyce Harris.)

This allowed the athletes to finish their dinner and awards presentation early enough to get in 2 hours of dancing - and they love to dance! A s volunteers we were recognized with a standing ovation.  Talk about the “warm & fuzzies”.  If you have never volunteered at a Special O event, try it - it’s amazing.  You will come away with a whole new perspective on life.  Special Olympic athletes are the most fun-loving, energetic and genuine people you will meet.

This is the second event we have helped out at and we plan to continue giving of our time to Calgary Special Olympics.
