Tribute Paid to Ray Router

Submitted by Bill Sornberger
Durham South

The City of Pickering paid tribute to the memory of Ray Router at their council meeting on December 20th.  Members of Ray’s family were present to hear an address by the Mayor of Pickering, Dave Ryan and by Club President Bill Sornberger.

Durham South purchased a portable defibrillator in Ray’s memory and the City will have it installed at a local hockey arena.  A plaque dedicated in Ray’s honour will be placed beside the machine.

As many will remember, Ray collapsed while playing tennis in November of 2003, but was revived by the use of a similar device.  Sadly he passed away while waiting bypass surgery two weeks later.

Jean Router was most appreciative of the Club’s actions on behalf of her late husband and couldn’t say enough about the good work and warm feelings she had for Progress.

The Club is looking to resurrect its golf tournament that Ray organized and rename it the Router Memorial.
