Santa Claus Comes to Town in Durham

The Durham South Club went on a shopping frenzy for the community in December.

The Club supported the Durham Regional Police Toy and Food drive with $2000.00 in food and $2500.00 in toys they purchased.

The Club contacts a local retailer and arranges a discount for a bulk purchase, then they arm themselves with as many shopping carts as they can push and they’re off.  The target group is children 2 years and under and teenagers.  Since most of our members have never really grown up, buying for a teenager was easy.  However, since most of our members never changed a diaper (they are men of the 80’s, not the 2000’s) the baby thing proved tougher.

There are bragging rights at stake as each cart must come as close to $250.00 without going over as possible.  The winner then receives the credit card points to donate back to the Toy Drive.  All of the purchases are then loaded onto waiting vans to be distributed to the local families.

We all know how this time of year can bring further grief to a struggling family and how just a little thing can bring so much joy.  It’s a project we are strongly committed to.
