A Time for Giving

Submitted by Katy Grose

December saw the ladies from CPC Halifax Cornwallis in full swing helping out in our community.

Members provided and wrote Christmas Cards for over 200 homeless folks at a Halifax church soup kitchen, brought friends and family for carol singing to entertain Veterans at Camp Hill Memorial Hospital, and helped Phoenix Youth Centre residents celebrate the season by hanging Christmas ornaments on their tree.  Club president Kathy Grose presented a cheque for $35,000.00 to PYP executive director Tim Crooks, along with another cheque for $500.00 for Christmas.

Many members also attended the annual Nutcracker charity luncheon, purchasing an honourary table in support of Phoenix Youth Programs and Adsum House.

Fellowship was not forgotten during this time as friends and family got together to attend the Halifax Progress Club’s annual Children’s Christmas party.  The club also celebrated its own Christmas Dinner where Santa left some very interesting and questionable articles, resulting in much laughter.

The club was also pleased to present a cheque for $10,000.00 to Special Olympics Nova Scotia after their (SONS) AGM in November.

Finally, it is with regret that we bid farewell again to Karen Cooke, who is returning to Calgary in February.  We’ll miss you.
