Christmas Party at the Kingsmeadow Home

Submitted by Steve Murphy
President, CPC Halifax

On Sunday December 5, 2004, members of the Canadian Progress Club Halifax were pleased to attend the annual Kingsmeadow Home Christmas party.

The Kingsmeadow Home is a magnificent structure, containing 15 spacious rooms that are home to 10 mentally challenged adults supervised by three resident counselors.  The home is owned by the Canadian Progress Club Halifax and is one of the main charitable organizations supported by the club.  Over the years, Kingsmeadow has acquired an enviable reputation for providing a warm, family environment for residents and has become a model for similar facilities across Canada.

Every year the Kingsmeadow Home hosts a Christmas party for its residents and members of their families.  The party is also open to all members of the Canadian Progress Club Halifax.  This year’s party turned out to be one of the largest parties over the last several years, and ten members of the club (and their families) were able to attend.  A great deal of fun, which included lunch and mingling with the residents and their families, was had by all.  The party is anticipated all year by the Kingsmeadow residents and they enjoy themselves tremendously.  The highlight of this year’s party for the club members was certainly when the residents were presented with their Christmas presents from the club.  This year the club had individual sweatshirts, complete with a Progress Club embroidered logo, made up for each resident.  The residents could not wait to open their presents, and were thoroughly pleased with their gifts.  I can also say that each club member was overwhelmed with the joy (and hugs) that was plainly visible with each resident upon receiving their gifts.  It’s days like these that make our hard work as club members truly worthwhile.
