 York Region Women

At the November joint zone meeting the York Region Women initiated two new members Denise Weinert and Jenny Cutting.  Welcome to Progress ladies!

At the end of January, the National Board will be meeting in Ontario, in the lovely town of Aurora (straight north of Toronto).  The York Region Women will be hosting the Annual Central Region President’s Dance on January 29th to coincide with the meetings, providing all members the opportunity to meet the National Executive and celebrate all the work their clubs have accomplished during the holiday season.  For more information about the President’s Dance contact Donna Breedon or Margaret French.

For any of the above contact information, please check the MCS website.

 Richmond Hill

The winter season brings the Annual Richmond Hill Winter Carnival, which has been held since 1968.  The Richmond Hill club will be working hard all weekend with the generous donated use of the Durham South’s French Fries trailer.  On Sunday, they will be flipping pancakes for a community fundraiser.  If you’re free, head out to the Mill Pond during the weekend of February 4-6; there will be a live bands contest Friday night and lots of family fun the rest of the weekend.

 Brampton

The next joint zone meeting will be hosted by Brampton on February 22, 2005.  It will be held upstairs at La Capannina.  A menu will be set in place and we will advise further in the next couple of weeks.  Mark this on your calendar.  Does anyone have a new member to be installed?

 Collingwood

I won the game of telephone tag with Club President Dave Astill.  He has once again generously donated his time to be the DJ at the upcoming President’s Dance hosted by the York Region Women.  Last year’s event was a great success due to Dave keeping the members dancing all night long.

Dave was sorry he missed the National Convention in Edmonton, however, he and his wife Lisa had an early delivery of a baby boy.  Congratulations to your family.

In November the Collingwood men boarded a bus and headed over to the Collingwood Hospital where they presented a cheque for $3000.00.  They then got back on that bus and headed over to Georgian Downs for a social evening of Horse Racing and Slot machines.  Member Dennis Orosz was the big winner at $177.00.  Horses or Slots???

Upcoming in February the club will be hosting a Curling Bonspiel and all members in the Region are invited to participate.  Dates will be advised soon.

Also in February, the Easter Seals Snowarama, put on by the Collingwood Snow Drifters Snowmobile Club.  At this event the Collingwood club works with the Snow Drifters by arranging for food, drink, warming area and prizes.  The last couple of years have been hampered by lack of snow.  This year we wish you luck and hope that several feet of the white stuff falls and provides a good base on the trails.

 Collingwood Area Women

December had the Collingwood Area Women selling beautiful tropical poinsettias. Monies raised, about $2500.00 was used to adopt 2 families for Christmas. One family of a mom and 2 teenagers, and the 2nd family a mom and 3 teens were well provided for. The Collingwood Area Women adopted the families through the Children’s Aid Society.

See you next in March . . .
