Blind Guy runs in Dublin, Diabetes wins

By Larry Fenske

To the tune of over 23,550.00, CPC Brampton was proud to sponsor our newest rookie member in his quest to raise money for Team Diabetes, by giving Richard Holloway (show at far right, with Anna Holloway, centre, and the Regional Director Diabetes, left) the seed money he needed to start his journey.

With the help from the Brampton members and his hard work, he held two raffles, sold T-Shirts, stuffed Bears, and held two Dinners.  The original goal was to raise 12,000.00 but he exceeded that by almost double the amount.  The climax was to run a full marathon in Dublin in late October this year.  Richard, although legally blind, is an accomplished marathoner.  Richard said “Dublin was, however, a formidable challenge due to the many bars serving Guinness on route.”  Despite the many thirst-quenching distractions, he completed the course.

Richard was inspired to do this run for Diabetes when he lost two close friends to the disease, and realized how many other friends and family were affected by this ailment.

We are very proud of Richard and very happy to have him and his enthusiasm as a member of CPC Brampton.
