Renate Thompson Let’s start with a big THANKS to Edmonton for hosting the National Convention this year. The members of Central Region who attended all had a wonderful time; how do I know this ... the flight back to Toronto was real quiet except for the occasional snore in the air. Look out Saskatoon ... we will see you in 2005! The Region congratulates the installation of National President Juanita Soutar, “Our Queen”. We hope you have a wonderful year and that you can accomplish all you aspire to. Congratulations to all the clubs who received their CPCF contribution recognitions and National Awards recognitions. Congratulations go to John Holman for Outstanding Zone Governor and Mentor Award! Outstanding President Award to Toronto Trillium’s Mary Kutarna and Outstanding Club Award presented to Brampton President Larry Fenske. This year Awards Chair acknowledgements were presented to Mary Kutarna and Renate Thompson. (If I have left someone out in the Central Region ... I apologize). During this year’s AGM, both Brampton and Greater Moncton bid to host the 2007 National Convention. “Good for Progress”. Brampton hopes for a successful presentation so the Convention returns to the Central Region. The last was held in 2000 by Collingwood. Zone meetings are planned so that the Governors can discuss the 8 Standards of Successful Clubs with the Regions members. Keep November 16 open for dinner at Cousins in Newmarket, hosted by York Region Women. The Toronto Trillium ladies held their 4th annual Halloween Bingo Bowling on Oct 20. A howling success with proceeds going to the Red Door Shelter. Many of the guests dressing up, Brampton’s team the swashbuckling pirates. Alan Bone, what was that costume you were wearing ... very scary! All the clubs in the Region are gearing up for a busy holiday season, for a calendar of events contact the Regional Secretary at renatethompson@rogers.com. Have a Merry Christmas everyone and a joyous New Year! Dialing for Dollars? Nope. Euchre for (Convention) Virgins! Prior to the Convention the Region held a Euchre Night to raise funds to promote incentives for Convention Virgins. We had three Newbies attend and they had to participate in Rookie Camp as well as attend the AGM and anything else we came up with as we went along (and we were good at that). Their noses looked lovely at the President’s Ball. You’re good sports Richard, Judy and Cindy! —RT
