Greater Vancouver:  Charity Begins at Home Plate

The ingredients were perfect for the 9th annual Progress Club Baseball Tournament, a two-day fundraising baseball tournament held a few weeks ago in North Vancouver.  Between the excellent weather, BBQ food, refreshments and thirteen enthusiastic teams, it was a fun event for everyone.

Participating teams included several that have played in previous years.  There was good representation from British Columbia industry, including high profile organizations such as BC Hydro and Accenture Business Services for Utilities.

Just over $12,000 in charity donations was raised at this event for Special Olympics, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and Small Talk speech therapy for young children.

This event was one of three major annual events organized by the Greater Vancouver club.  Others include the Annual Plywood Cup and Cascades Golf Tournament.  In fact, preparations are well under way for the 6th annual golfing event being held at the Redwood 18 hole course on September 15th.  The Texas Scramble format will be followed by an evening BBQ buffet, awards and a silent auction.

Speaking of enjoyable events:  in late August, Ken Thorhaug once again hosted what has turned out to be an annual event at his home—Prime Rib BBQ and all the fixings to help celebrate another successful Canadian Progress year and the strong contribution made by the Greater Vancouver team!
