Saskatoon Meewasin:  Club Update

By Debbie Kobelsky
President Saskatoon Meewasin

Where has the summer gone?  Or did we even have one?  Well, the gals of Saskatoon Meewasin did the best we could with the weather that came over the summer months.

At the beginning of June, we volunteered for the Easter Seals 24-Hour Relay by bartending in the beer gardens.  We have been volunteering for the Relay for the past 10 years.  Each year we have a great time and this year was no exception.

We all went our separate ways for July but August brought us together with our “Christmas in July” — uhmmm —“in August” party.  Orpha Campbell offered her new home for our party as we exchanged “garage sale” gifts.  The highlight gift?  Well, let’s just say you will have to ask us in person as my article would be censored to say the least if I wrote it in this article.  Got your curiosity?

August also brought the Law Enforcement’s Plane Pull at our Canada Remembers Air Show.  It’s a fund-raiser in support of Saskatchewan Special Olympics.  Our team “CPC Gals and Pals” consisted of 26 women who pulled a 60-tonne airplane 25 ft.  Unfortunately, our time placed us second in the ladies category.  A ladies team from Robin’s Donuts defeated us.  Maybe that’s the secret—donuts!  I think Homer Simpson would agree.  But we were able to raise and donate on behalf of our club $2,000 to this event for Saskatchewan Special Olympics.

Well, that’s all the news for now from our club.  See you at our convention in Edmonton.
