Toronto Trillium:  News and Reviews

The women of Toronto Trillium held another well-attended golf tournament on June 3 to benefit Ontario Special Olympics.  We had a record number of registered golfers, many of whom are repeat participants.  Thanks to the Central Region clubs who supported us on this event, including Brampton, York Region Women, and Collingwood Area Women.  The weather was co-operative and everyone went home with prizes, gift bags and a promise to return in 2005.

On August 6 approximately 200 people participated in Kids Games, a fun afternoon for children put together by the Kids Games organisation, Toronto Trillium and Toronto Downtown.  Trina Burden planned the torch run from Skydome to the TD Centre and Jackie Roe, Trina, Mary Kutarna and Juanita Soutar helped set up and run the games for the kids.  The event was covered by CITYTV, CBC and CTV so there was plenty of publicity.

Our third annual Halloween Bingo Bowl-a-thon takes place on October 30 at Thorncliffe Bowlerama in East York.  We are partnering with Toronto Downtown and the Red Door Shelter and expect terrific attendance, wonderful prizes, great food, great fun and scary costumes!  Contact Karen at kmrkonjic@sympatico.ca  or (416) 391-3680 if you are interested in participating.

Congratulations to Juanita Soutar for receiving the Ernest Shand Award and Karen Mrkonjic for receiving the George Christie Award at the 2004 Regional Annual General Meeting.

Last, but certainly not least, we say a fond farewell to Trina Burden who, along with her husband Ian, will be moving back to Newfoundland.  I’m sure Toronto Trillium and Progress will not be seeing the last of Trina!  Best of luck to you both.
