Halifax Cornwallis

By Pat Bowes
President

Well, I can’t believe my tenure as President for 2004 is almost finished.  We have had a very eventful and restructuring year, losing members to other commitments and associate member status.  However, we have acquired some dynamic new ladies that have added their talents and experience to our club.

The 2003 Women of Excellence Dinner was a fantastic success and we were able to donate $35,000 again this year to Phoenix Youth Programs.

In March we had our Membership Drive evening and since that time have inducted the following new members into our club.  Welcome to Susan Gray, Rita McCarthur, Lori Forward, Tanya Matthews, Lesley MacLeod and Denise Williams!

On May 16th the second Eastlink Live TV Auction was held with proceeds going to Nova Scotia Special Olympics.

Our club members have really pulled together this year with even more donations.  Last year we were able to raise $10,000 and this year we netted approx. $14,000.

June 2nd will be our Runaround, but we have to bypass our beloved Point Pleasant Park, due to our friend Juan and his devastation.  We will follow the Run for the Cure route, finishing up at The Tower at Saint Mary’s University for our Wrap-Up Party festivities and our cheque presentation to Phoenix.

Our final meeting for this current year will be at our Annual General Meeting on June 24th.  The new executive will be sworn in and the gang will be off for the summer.

To the current executive of the Halifax-Cornwallis Progress Club and all members, my heartfelt thanks for the opportunity to be at the wheel in this dynamic and great organization.  I have the greatest respect for all of you and I know we have all benefited from my quarters donated to the Sergeant-at-Arms each and every meeting.

Yours for Progress,
Pat Bowes
President 2003-2004
