Halifax:  Celebrity Dinner

By Doug Baker
Zone Governor

Once again CPC Halifax entertains the sellout at the annual Celebrity Dinner at the World Trade Centre in Halifax.  Just under 1100 patrons packed into the venue for the 32nd annual gala.

As usual the committee had outdone themselves with a new look to the room (celebrities’ names lit up at both ends of the room).  Kermit Phillips, President, hosted the dinner in conjunction with our master of ceremonies Rod Black.  Rod did his usual great job and entertained the gathering with Rod’s “Black moments video”.  Rod introduced the head table, which consisted of our National President, Wolfgang Juchem, baseball hall of famer Phil Neikro, hockey hall of famers Marcel Dionne and Grant Fuhr, CFL future hall of famer Pinball Clemens and Canada’s Olympic Gold medallist Catriona LaMay Doan.

All the celebrities had the opportunity to take to the dais and engage the audience.

Breaking with tradition the stage was set up so the celebrities could take the mobile mic and walk out onto the extended stage.  All took this opportunity to be closer to the patrons who showed their delight.

Pinball stole the show with his accounts of his life, dedication to those less fortunate and the effect on his life of meeting Muhammad Ali.

All of the celebrities spoke on how the effect that meeting the Kings Meadow residents at their luncheon had on them and brought into perspective the importance of helping those less fortunate.

Intermixed in the evening were raffle draws, trivia game and a grand prize draw for a trip for two to New York, which included airfare, hotel and tickets to a Rangers hockey game.

Once again congratulations to the dinner committee and the members of CPC Halifax for a job well done.
