Halifax-Cornwallis
By Sharon Ward
August.
What a month for misconnecting. Vacations and long weekends are
the main culprits. I work for a regional business magazine
(ironically, called Progress) and I suffer through the doldrums of
August every year, making call after call to magazine advertisers to get
their advertising material in on time to meet deadline. I get
voice mail messages telling me the party is on vacation and will be back
in two weeks. It is much the same with Progress Club
reporters. My email requests for reports resulted in but one
response, from our newest club, Greater Moncton Women. (And a few lines
from Halifax-Cornwallis, written by yours truly.) Of course, we
have a whole slate of new club presidents now, and few, if any, clubs
meet over the summer—another
contributor to Progression Lite.
Halifax-Cornwallis committee members are busy working
on our Women of Excellence event for October. Soliciting
sponsorships, getting women nominated for the awards, and selling
tickets take a great deal of time and effort and the event doesn't
happen without that effort. Knowing for a fact that our past
efforts have helped to make a significant difference in the lives of
young men and women of our community has been the inspiration for the
club to persevere and ensure success for the last 13 years.
