The
Alberta South Zone once again rang in the new year by hosting its second
annual New Year's Eve Party. All eight Progress clubs in Calgary
were involved in the ticket sales and over 400 paid guests were treated
to one of the best parties ever.
I wish I could give you all of the finer details of the event,
however as I was relegated to working the shooter bar (by choice) my
memory appears somewhat fuzzy to say the least. I have been told
that I had fun. Hopefully the pictures will give you some idea of
how much fun was had by all.
The
concept of "black-tie or blue jeans" allowed our guests to be
totally comfortable dressed however they wished for the occasion.
The music was supplied by Mardi Gras (you may remember them from the
Canmore convention), as well as a local DJ to fill in during
intermissions.
Jimmy
Hughes, our colorful local TV weatherman, and a very strong and loyal
Progress supporter, splendidly performed the responsibility of emceeing
the event.
At the end of the day, the event had raised between eight and nine
thousand dollars to help the clubs and the zone run their internal
operations.
We
would like to congratulate Halifax on the success of their first New
Year's Eve Party and sincerely hope that other clubs will consider the
possibility of running a New Year's Eve event next year. It would
be a wonderful to work on a live video connection between the events at
some time in the future and celebrate New Year's and Progress right
across the country.
The group here in Calgary and, I am sure, the gang in Halifax would
be only too happy to share their concept and strategies for running
these events.
