Calgary Bow River:  15th Annual Gala Auction

Calgary Bow River's 15th Annual Gala Auction in Support of Big Sisters & Big Brothers was held on Friday, November 8th at the Westin Hotel, Calgary.

In addition to the live and silent auctions, the gala event included a cocktail reception, a five-star dinner with complimentary wine, and door prizes.  Live entertainment was provided by musician and composer Stan Foster.

Emcee Jim Hughes (Calgary Global TV meteorologist) lent his special brand of humour and panache to the proceedings and was rivaled only by Little Brother and Little Sister of the Year, Travis and Whitney.  Long-time Gala supporters, former City Alderman Sue Higgins, and Arts patroness Dr. Martha Cohen were among the special guests in attendance.  Also lending their support in making the event a success were Calgary Sun columnist Eric Francis and City Alderman Ric McIver.

Approximately 60 unique silent auction items were available for bid throughout the evening.  After dinner, auctioneer Bill Brown and company oversaw the live auction of 18 combination packages consisting of vacations, sporting events, merchandise, services and more.

At the end of the evening, Gala co-chairs Todd Berry and Brian Spilchen presented BS&BB Executive Director, Sharon Moore, with a cheque for $30,000.

Many thanks to all the Gala Auction donors. (For a complete list of acknowledgements, please see the Bow River website at www.cpcbowriver.com).

Honourable mention to committee members Lynda Binder, Lori Richardson, Pam Taylor, Terry Clarke, Bruce Finnigan, Barry Kozmyk, Martin Lautsch, Tony Parrottino and Mike Warren for their behind-the-scenes contribution to the 2002 Gala Auction's success.
