Convention 2002

Update for September

Just around the corner…

September 25th is coming up on us fast!  Will your club be well represented in Canmore on that date?  It's getting down to the wire, but it's still not too late to register!  Registration forms are available at www.cpcbowriver.com or by contacting Convention Registrar, Darrell Stelmack, at (403) 294-4962.

Overflow Accommodation…

The Radisson Hotel & Conference Centre Canmore is now fully booked and names will no longer be placed on a waiting list.  If you still require accommodation, please contact the Windtower Mountain Lodge.  Located at 160 Kananaskis Way, the Windtower is within easy walking distance of the Radisson.  Reservations can be made by calling (403) 609-6600 or toll free 1-866-609-6600, or email info@windtowermountinlodge.com.  The lodge's fax number is (403) 609-6666.  For rate information and virtual room tours, visit Windtower's website at www.windtowermountainlodge.com.

Arrival in Calgary…

Conventioneers arriving by air on Tuesday and Wednesday should look for our Convention information kiosks located at both arrivals terminals at the Calgary airport.  Identified by Canadian Progress Club signage, the kiosks will be manned by volunteers from CPC Calgary City Centre club who will be glad to direct you to the airport hospitality room where you can relax while awaiting our complimentary shuttle service to Canmore.

To assist us in coordinating an efficient shuttle schedule, please provide Transportation Coordinator Bruce Batycki with your flight arrival information. You can contact Bruce by email at sbbat@telusplanet.net or leave him a voice message at (403) 251-3019.

Anyone arriving by air on Monday or Thursday and requiring transportation to Canmore, please contact Bruce as above.

Car Rental…

All people attending the convention will get a 15% discount at Enterprise Rent-A-Car.  To take advantage of this discount call 1-800-593-0505 or go through www.enterprise.com.  The booking is done by quoting #5CA0750 and the title of the group is "New Corporate Offer".

Event Updates…

See below for additional information, reminders, and answers to FAQs regarding certain scheduled events.
(For details on all scheduled events, including revisions to the Spousal Program, please visit http://www.cpcbowriver.com/Convention_2002/index.htm.)

Wednesday's Golf Tournament

  • All golfers are to meet in front of the Radisson Canmore by 9:00 a.m. Transportation from the hotel to SilverTip Golf Course will be provided for anyone without a vehicle.  Make sure you have your emergency clothing kit with you!

  • It is absolutely essential that you pack along a kit bag with extra clothing that will provide you with waterproof, warm and flexible layers.  (Recommended items: rain suit, ski suit, sweater, toque, gloves, wool socks and sorrels).  Although the seasonal temperature is expected to be between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius, this is the mountains and the temperature can drop to a windy, rainy or snowy 5 degrees without warning. (The scenic views are spectacular either way!)

  • Tee-offs will commence between 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.  It will take approximately five hours to get around the course.  Dinner and awards will follow at 7:00 p.m.

  • Your registration fee includes green fees, golf cart, steak dinner and pro shop gift certificate.  It does not include lunch.

Wednesday Evening's Hospitality Suite

  • Hosted by CPC Calgary North.

  • Theme: casual.

Thursday's Education Seminars

  • Daily enrollment for the specialized sessions with restricted attendance will be via sign-up sheet located at the Registration desk.

Thursday's Spousal Program

  • Add your name to the sign-up sheet in the lobby if you wish to participate in Thursday's excursion to Banff.

Thursday Evening's Hospitality Suite

  • Hosted by CPC Alberta North Zone.

  • Theme: Heroes & Villains (real or imaginary!)

Friday's Education Seminars

  • Don't forget the session sign-up sheet located at the Registration desk.

Friday's Spousal Program

  • Make sure you've signed up for Friday's walking tour of Canmore.  Sign-up sheets will be in the lobby.

Friday's Excursion to Boundary Ranch

  • Activities will include walking tours, horse-drawn wagon rides, a horseshoe throwing contest, dinner and dance.

  • Casual and Western clothing is appropriate.  Jeans and tees will work -- so will boots and cowboy hats if you're so inclined!  Running shoes or casual footwear is best.  It's the mountains, so don't forget a warm jacket!

  • Reminder:  Transportation to Boundary Ranch is by charter bus only. Due to environmental restrictions, private vehicles will not be granted access to Ranch property -- no exceptions!

Friday Evening's Hospitality Suite

  • Hosted by CPC Sherbrooke.

  • Theme: Once Upon a Time in the East

Saturday's President's Ball

  • Expect the formal and ceremonial tradition of conventions past, but throw in a touch of "Hotel Havana 1920".  Think wealth, glamour and sophistication of a classic era -- tuxedoed gents, elegant ladies, starlit tropical nights, rum mojitos and cigar bars!

Saturday's Post-Ball Hospitality Suite

  • In conjunction with the President's Ball and co-hosted by CPC Halifax.

  • Theme:  Havana Beach Party

  • Dress:  By this time of night anything goes -- from tuxes to trunks, baubles to bikinis!  It's Hotel Havana spilled out onto the beach!

Moving Mountains…

See you in September!
