Can you pull a 727?  Saskatoon Meewasin Takes Title
On Saturday, August 17th, the Saskatchewan Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) held their second annual Plane Pull in conjunction with the Canada Remembers Air Show in Saskatoon, SK.  The proceeds of the event are in support of the work that these fine officers do with the Saskatchewan Special Olympics organization.  Teams pay an entrance fee for the chance to pull a Purolator 727 plane over a predetermined distance in the shortest amount of time.

The members of the Saskatoon Meewasin club entered the only all female team last year but were met with more competition for the second running of this "fun-raiser" this year. Twenty-five "Progress gals and pals" got together in the early morning at the Saskatoon airport to prepare for this "Olympian" feat.  It was a cool and overcast day but that did nothing to dampen the spirits of those gathered to attempt to move this airplane the required distance.

There were a total of three all female teams entered in the competition this year and when the dust had settled and all timed pulls were final, Saskatoon Meewasin emerged third overall, over approximately eight to ten other mixed teams, and first in the ladies division.  This netted the club a beautiful trophy, as well as a cash prize, which we were proud to donate back to the LETR for their important work with Special O.  We had also raised more money in pledged donations than any other team entered in Saturday's event.  As the new president of the Saskatoon Meewasin club, I was overwhelmed with pride at the spirit of "progress" shown at this event.

We have developed a very worthwhile and mutually beneficial relationship with the LETR here in Saskatoon.  We look forward to future events where we can work hand in hand with these fine men and women who not only protect and serve our communities but also work to further the goals of the Special Olympics organization.
