Stampede Tradition - Progress Style!

Every July, the Calgary Stampede is the backdrop for several of the South Zone's most successful and, unquestionably, most popular events.  Throughout the ten days of Stampede, Calgary clubs gear up for the excitement, combining fun, fellowship and fund-raising with a healthy dose of Western hospitality and rodeo fever.  This year was no exception.

On Tuesday, July 9th, the fine fellows from Stampede City Progress Club hosted their 27th Annual Bullshooter Breakfast.  A sell-out crowd of 1100 guests participated in the all-inclusive breakfast event, which was held at the Westin Hotel from 7:30 a.m. until high noon.  It was the twenty-fifth consecutive sold-out Stampede fund-raiser for the club. Many thanks go to the staff of the Westin and to members of the Progress ladies' clubs who acted as hostesses for the venue.

"It just ain't a Stampede 'til you've been Buckn'!" declare the members of CPC Calgary Bow River.  This year, the Bow River Boys hosted their 21st Annual Buckn' Breakfast on Wednesday, July 10th and their 12th Annual "Highwood Distillers" Buckn' Breakfast on Friday, July 12th.  More than two thousand folks enjoyed Western grub, spirits and libations, dancing and continuous live entertainment. Once again, the Poverty Plainsmen (2001 Canadian Country Music Award winners) were the featured performers.

And what would Stampede be without a rodeo-a Dogie Do Rodeo, that is!  On Saturday, July 6th, CPC Calgary Downtown club presented its 12th Annual Dogie Do Rodeo, an annually sold-out event that features real-live rodeo action-the kind that won't be found at any other rodeo!  Ever hear of the Wriggle-on?  It's a Dogie Do tradition!  On Thursday, July 11th, the men of Calgary Downtown continued the Stampede fun by once again hosting their Dogie Do Breakfast. Funds raised benefited Big Sisters & Big Brothers of Calgary.
