Mentoring  -  What & Why

I often compare a statement in the real estate community,  “that there is 3 things to remember when buying a home, and that is location, location, and location.”  In the Progress Club community I believe the 3 most important areas are “membership, membership and membership.”

If we have strong membership within our clubs, the members will automatically develop fundraisers and socials.  Membership should be at the top of each of our clubs list of things to work on.

Within the structure of Progress, we have an award to honor club members who excel in mentoring new members.  This often involves regular contact with the new member to help enhance the interest for the new member in our events, and to ensure they are included and feel welcome at all events.  Thru this process the new member quickly grows to become an integral member of the club.  The feel not only a part of the club but also that their ideas and time is well invested.  This is so important.

At our National Convention in Halifax I will introduce to our club presidents a concept of Club Mentoring, where we will try to replicate the membership one on one with a club one on one to help build stronger, healthier clubs.

Increasing club membership often gets left to “the other members”.  If we break the challenge down to only requiring a small contribution from each member in each club, we will achieve our goals without even noticing it.  If we all bring one potential member out as a guest to our individual club meetings by the end of Oct., and follow thru with the mentoring process, I can assure you that by Christmas that you will feel you have given and received the best Christmas gift possible  within your Progress community.

We as Progressions do so much good for our local communities;  we should not be selfish, we should include and welcome our friends, neighbors and work associates to join the positive experience that awaits them within Progress.  Think of who you can share Progress with.
