A Note from Your Treasurer

For those of you that may not be aware, I am resigning from the Board of Directors after 10 years, having  served as the National Secretary-Treasurer for 8 years preceded by National Vice-President, Great Plains Region for 2.   I am fortunate to introduce Brian Spilchen from Calgary Bow River as my replacement to fill the roles of  National Secretary-Treasurer and Treasurer for the Foundation.   I’m stepping down to devote more time and energy to not only little Kimberley but to my local chapter Toronto Trillium (as Vice President).

I have enjoyed my time on the Board and have been witness to many changes.  To highlight a few: saying farewell to Lee Irwin retire after 29 years and welcoming  Molly Trussler as our new Executive Director;  dues increases in 1994 and 2000; elimination of minimum 15 member billing;  phased-in billing in advance;  streamlined office administration; strategic planning processes that involved the grass roots;  e-mail; a web-site;  meeting many new Board members and friends and the list goes on.

I enjoy positive change and look forward to the new ideas that this year’s Board will introduce at the Annual Convention this year.  All the best to next year’s Board of Directors.  [P.S.   I really look forward to next year’s golf tournament in Canmore!]

One of my responsibilities at the Annual General Meeting is Chair of the Credentials Committee.  Because there are 3 significant motions being voted on at the AGM I want to briefly outline the process that Club Presidents need to follow to ensure appropriate voting privileges at the AGM.

Please note that only Clubs in “good standing” (having met all obligations to National, the Foundation and their Region 30 days prior to the AGM) are entitled to vote.  If a Club is not in “good standing”, only members present are allowed to vote.  If the Club President fails to submit the Accredited Delegate Proxy form with proper signatures, the Credential Committee will be unable to issue Proxy Ballots and the Club will lose the privilege to cast votes for those Club members not in attendance at the Convention.  Proxy Forms will NOT be available at the Convention.

  • One half hour before the start of the AGM all Club Presidents must submit to the Credentials Desk an Accredited Delegate Proxy Form, signed by the Club President and Club Secretary

  • The appropriate number of ballots will be issued for distribution to members present and a ballot indicating the entitled number of proxy votes.  The total votes for each Club is determined by the April 30, 2001 Census Report.  If Club members joined a Club subsequent to April 30th , a copy of  the 3-part membership form must be on file with the National Office in order to have voting privileges.

Looking forward to another great convention.  See you in Halifax!
